Party: 5 Years Ilian Tape @ Bread & Butter

lian Tape celebrates five years of operation in March//May with parties in Germany, Switzerland, Scotland Netherlands and England.

Bread & Butter is proud to host the official London date of Ilian Tape showcase.

Helmed by brothers Dario and Marco Zenker, Ilian Tape has been pushing a brand of rhythmic house and techno since its inception. Over the years it’s hosted the work of a variety of producers, with the likes of Lee Van Dowski, Jichael Mackson and Jonas Kopp each contributing 12-inches alongside the founders themselves. Last year was arguably Ilian Tape’s most successful yet, dropping a series of well-received vinyl releases, including the Zenker Brothers’ own heavy-hitting Berg 10 EP.

DARIO ZENKER
(Ilian Tape / Harry Klein / Vakant / Esperanza) Munich GER

Just in time, the ‘Free State’ of Bavaria has produced a new son to relight its techno torch. Munich born and raised Dario Zenker is writing his own chapter in the long story of electronic music from Germany’s dirty south. It all started with listening to Michael Jackson as a kid, then Dario moved on to underground hip hop to rile the neighbors.Several visits from the not-so-friendly neighborhood police later, Dario’s father, a pro audio engineer, introduced the wunderkind to music programming and imparted the tools which later consumed him. At 15 Dario started to DJ, and not too long after he received his club education from the legendary Ultraschall. In 2005 at the ripe old age of 21, Dario landed his residency at Harry Klein which he still maintains today.2006 saw his debut vinyl release and in the space following Dario managed to sprinkle his magic chuga chuga dust on some of the world’s finest minimal techno labels.Whether DJ-ing or playing live, in just a few years Dario has built up a reputation for freaky experimental sets which never seem to stay in the same place for too long. Constantly innovating Dario has never been content walking a straight line with the crowd. To attempt to put it into words:bomb, duck, cover, swerve, bomb, swerve, bomb bomb.In 2008 ‘the’ youngin became ‘our’ youngin joining the hallowed ranks of the Vakant crew with Dario’s split personality ‘Sam Und Er/Womde!’ EP (VA019). Dario’s thick kink finds a natural home here on the Vakant deep freak out bus bumping and bouncing the club kids wherever they need to go.
In 2009, the residents of Harry Klein joined forces to bring Harry Klein Records to life, captained by Julietta, Marco and himself. When he isn’t working his voodoo at dance rituals all over the world, both labels offer the perfect platform for him to translate and transmit his own distinguished sound from his enclave in Munich’s Turkish quarter. His inspiration? Life, love and dancing.

MARCO ZENKER
(Ilian Tape / Harry Klein / Esperanza) Munich GER

Marco Zenker was born in Munichs Glockenbach neighbourhood in 1988. After he came true with skateboarding and other sports, listening to roots Reggae and underground hip hop for years, he discovered at a Harry Klein party, on which his brother Dario was playing, the fascination for electronic music. In the meantime Marco developed his own spaced out dubby techno style. With his 22 years he has already a substantial row of gigs and releases to show. Everything began with dancing – the love for music and letting yourself go with the crowd in a club. His live sets are accordingly full of energy and rhythm whereby it is of course also always about the live moment. Marco never plays whole pieces – his live sets are always complete improvised. Exactly this mixture makes them so exciting and different. This tears people of the age of Ableton Djs – where it is not about the live-mixing-art in itself for many people, but more about at least music from somewhere. Even in the Ableton age where the sound loses always on quality, there are still young artists like Marco Zenker who stick, nevertheless, pertinaciously to old traditions and live the spirit. Together with his brother he runs the label Ilian Tape and is, moreover, a part of Harry Klein Records. Expect the unexpected.
